Psalm 16:8 I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. ~ When we set The Lord before us, not only does he deliver us and keep us, but we can also have confidence that no matter what we come up against, we have been equipped to overcome. When we choose to set the Lord before us, we learn to wait patiently for him and we allow him to direct our steps.

When we don’t set the Lord before us, we can get ahead of God and refuse his direction and counsel. I’m sure we have all heard of people who have gotten a word from the Lord concerning their life and they immediately run out and try to fulfill it in themselves and end up falling face down. I know of so many people who have forsaken the process not understanding that many times The Lord will speak concerning his plan for our lives which is for an appointed time. So instead of going through process and being equipped and prepared, they go out with guns blazing only to end up disappointed and frustrated. But if we will wait on The Lord and set him before us, he will direct our every step. He will lead us by his spirit and equip us for everything we might face on our journey.

I had a dream about 15 years ago where I was in an amusement park walking with God. As soon as we entered in the gates, I saw all the big rides ahead of me and started to run towards them in my zeal. The Lord stopped me and spoke to me to walk with him because if I didn’t, I was going to miss all the good stuff along the way. He then told me that he was the owner of the park and that we had all the time that we needed to see everything. I see a lot of Christians who are just like I was in my dream. They see the promise of God, whether it be for ministry, a mate, etc. and instead of waiting on The Lord to give them direction, they just run ahead of him and leave him out of the equation. Many times, these people end up hurt and offended and wonder why God left them or failed when in reality, it was they who left God. So let’s be sure that when God gives us a promise or speaks something concerning our lives, we wait on him to lead us by his spirit. He has a way of redeeming time and a way to supernaturally ‘catch you up’ so that you will be right where you need to be, when you need to be there.
