1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: ~ We are a people who have been born of God, filled with his spirit, and empowered to live differently than the world. We have the power within us through his spirit and his grace to live not according to the world and the lusts therein, but to live holy unto God.

As Ambassadors of Christ, we have a responsibility to live in a way that is pleasing unto our Father. In 1Peter 2:11, Peter beseeches us as strangers and pilgrims in this world to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against our soul. We are the ones empowered and required to make the decision on how we live. Once we make the decision to live for Christ, there is a grace and a power that God bestows upon us and his spirit works within us to bring us into who God has created us to be. I know people who live frustrated and miserable lives because they desire God but they also desire to live a life fulfilling the desires and lusts of the flesh. They are torn between two worlds because they have never made a decision to cut off their old identity and embrace their new one. What a terrible way to live.

When we come to discover who God is and who he has made us to be, there is no greater satisfaction, no greater joy, no greater fulfillment that can be found in this world. Everyone of us were created with a purpose to be in relationship with our Heavenly Father. Apart from him, we will always be incomplete and empty. Let’s choose today to rise up in the grace given us to no longer live according to the course of this world and the lusts of the flesh, but let’s choose to live in our God-given identity: a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people. For in this is the fullness of life.
