Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. ~ Quite often when I pray, I thank God that this is the generation of the manifestation of the sons of God in the earth. All of creation itself is waiting for a people who will choose to embrace their identity as the sons of God. This is more than a title, it’s an identity, a nature that we get the choice to take on. But to truly take on this identity, there are requirements that must be met and fruit that will be manifested. It’s not enough to just call yourself a son, you must bear fruit.
As I was writing in my journal today, I began to think about what it means to be a mature son of God. It means that we come to a place in The Lord where we are no longer dominated by the works of the flesh but we walk in the spirit. It’s when we no longer allow our emotions to determine how we respond to people, circumstances, or the seasons we are going through. Its where we choose to keep our mouth shut and cover the faults and nakedness of another so that we don’t bring a curse on ourselves. It’s when we embrace the process of God and refuse to abort faith because the places that we are in are uncomfortable to our flesh. It’s where we come into a place of submitting ourselves, our will, our lives to the authority that God has placed over us and refuse to be moved out from under that authority. It’s where we decrease so that God can increase in our lives. Its where we allow the spirit of God to have expression in our lives and not give place to the devil. It’s where we no longer require goosebumps or live for feel good moments but that we live every moment unto God. It’s when we come into a place of maturity where we hear The Lord and walk in obedience to his command no matter the cost to our flesh. It’s where we choose to trust him, even when we can’t see. It’s where we embrace the fiery trials that are trying us knowing that they will bring us into perfection and into fruitfulness. It’s where we no longer give place to the devil and are no longer easily offended because we didn’t get our way. It’s where we are no longer double minded but will hold fast to the promises of God even when the world around us is falling apart. It means that we live and function out of the wisdom that comes from above and not the wisdom of the world that is earthly, sensual, and devilish. It’s about speaking life over death and speaking truth regardless of what circumstances say.
Being a mature son of God is not for the faint hearted. I’ve heard people say that relying on Christ means that you are weak – on the contrary. Christianity is not for the weak hearted. No, it takes a real man and a real woman to take on this identity and the responsibility that goes with it.
