Matthew 18:9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. ~ Offend means to trip up, stumble, entice to sin, and apostasy. We understand in scripture it says that sin leads to death; not just a natural death, but a spiritual death. It’s a life separated from God, an eternity in hell and in fire. This is some pretty strong stuff that Jesus is telling us in Matthew. He is trying to get our attention in how important and necessary it is for us to protect ourselves and preserve ourselves with a life of holiness. Hell is real and so is life after death. We must be willing to do whatever it takes to keep ourselves free of sin; even if it means temporal suffering in this life.
The only thing final in death is your ability to make a decision. You determine where you spend eternity by the choices you make and the life you live here and now on earth. When every person dies, their flesh dies and is buried in the ground but your soul and spirit continue to live. You still have feelings, thoughts, and your 5 senses. The only thing you don’t have is a natural body keeping you here in this natural realm. So when you die, depending on the choices you made on earth, your spirit and soul either goes to heaven or they go to hell….whether you believe in hell or not. It is real and it is eternal. The bible says that the only way into heaven is through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Accepting him as Lord and living your life according to his commandments: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and love your neighbor.
Time is running short and we must guard ourselves to whatever extent is necessary. The pleasure of sin only lasts for a moment but eternity lasts for forever. It is appointed unto every man to die. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow. Today might be the last day we get to make a decision; for tomorrow eternity might come….
