Matthew 21:19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward forever. And presently the fig tree withered away. ~ The purpose of the fig tree was to bear fruit that others might partake of it and live. We understand that according to the Word of God, we are trees of righteousness that are to bring forth good fruit. In our time of visitation, will the Lord find fruit on our branches? We do not know the day or the hour; we only know that he is coming. In John 15 it talks about Jesus being the vine and we the branches. Every branch that bears fruit is pruned and cut back so that it might bring forth more fruit. Every branch that bears no fruit is cut off, withered, and cast into fire.
We must examine ourselves. Are we bearing fruit? Are we fulfilling our purpose in life? Are we running towards the mark of the prize? If not, we must purpose today to get about his business. We must do the works of him while there is still light. For the night cometh when no man will be able to work. The day of the Lord is approaching. We must do due diligence to make sure that we are ready.
