John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. ~ We can walk through our entire lives not knowing that we are in darkness. It’s only when we come into encounters with light that we realize the depths of the darkness that we are in. Every man, woman, and child is born into darkness. They are born under the influence and dominion of the kingdom and darkness due to the sin of one man, Adam. And because this is all they have known their entire lives, it seems normal. It seems that this is the way that man is to live and that this is just how life is.

It’s when we come into encounters with Jesus that true light shines and we begin to see things differently. He brings illumination and understanding that brings freedom and life. Things that we once thought were ‘normal’ now we see as bondages and prisons of the enemy. And it’s through encounters with Christ that we begin to not only see differently but we begin to live differently.

Someone who is born and brought up in a loveless house, or a family that doesn’t show emotion, considers that ‘normal’ behavior so when they grow up, get married and have a family of their own, they will typically not show their spouse or their children emotion or love. Someone who grows up in a home where fighting and yelling at each other is a way of life will typically treat their spouse in the same way that their parents treated each other. Many of us have unhealthy habits or lifestyles because it’s what was familiar to us or ‘normal’ to us when we were growing up. But when we come into encounters with Jesus, he will begin to cause his light to shine in our lives and will begin to show us a new way of living that brings joy, peace, love, contentment, and satisfaction.

When we come into encounters with him, it will bring adjustments in our thought life, it will bring correction to the way that we view things and will cause us to come into alignment with the way that God views things. And when that process begins to happen in our lives, freedom begins to come forth and that’s when true change happens. Change happens from the inside out. That’s when change isn’t hard. When our very nature begins to change, we become transformed into his image and no longer conformed to the things of this world.
