James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. ~ I find it interesting that God put this scripture in the word where he did. Right before this verse, James is talking to the church about the trials and tribulations that will come to try them. But he encourages us to count it all joy when we encounter these things knowing that they will bring us into perfection if we will allow patience to have her work. I believe that verse 17 is a nugget of truth, a weapon that we can use to overcome these trials and tribulations.
One of the greatest weapons the enemy uses against the church is trying to cause them to question who they are in Christ and the faithfulness and character of our God. We see this in the temptation of Jesus. The devil questioned his identity and the integrity and faithfulness of God. Every response of Jesus was based upon the Word of God and what God had said. Jesus understood that man doesn’t live by bread or by natural things along but lives by the eternal word of the Lord.
James reminds us that every good thing comes from God and that he never changes. If you have things going on in your life that are not good, they are not from God. He doesn’t tempt us or try us with evil so let’s not hold something to his account that he isn’t guilty of. Another thing is that God never changes! Our circumstance, our situation, and our failures do not alter who God is. He is faithful who promised and always causes us to triumph in Christ – even when we feel like we failed! No matter what comes against us, God promises an end to it and victory if we will hold fast to faith.
