What do you want? I heard The Lord ask me this question this morning. Over the past couple of days, I have been reevaluating things that I see going on in my life. I’ve been looking at relationships that have been established and those that haven’t. I’ve been looking at advantages I’ve had in life and the lack thereof. I have been examining myself and searching what’s truly in my heart. What are my motives? What truly is in my heart and what do I count as valuable? What is important to me? Where do I put my confidence and what is my identity found in? Is my identity found in relationships? Is it found in what I do for a living? Is it found in the acceptance or acknowledgement of others? Where do I put my confidence?
After a couple days of examination, this is what I’ve come to…. Most of what we deal with in everyday life are temporal things, that in the light of eternity and God’s plans for our lives, don’t mean anything. What I truly, truly want in life is to be where He is. My desire and passion is to know him. It’s not for ministry; it’s not for fame, or to be popular. I just want to be where He is. I want to know him and experience him in greater depths. My identity is to be found solely in Him. My confidence is to be in Him and Him alone. My joy and desire is to be in Him. It doesn’t matter if man rejects me, as long as I am accepted by Him. It doesn’t matter if I fit in with the in-crowd or am acknowledged by men. It doesn’t matter if I hold a title or have a great business or ministry. It doesn’t matter if I come from money or if I came from the poorest of the poor. God doesn’t look on the outward appearance of men, but he looks on the heart. All promotion and increase comes from Him. He is able to promote, He is able to establish, He is able to redeem. He is able to make something good out of trash. All that matters in life is that we are found acceptable and pleasing to Him. That’s it. All this stuff we experience in life is temporal. People will come and go, opportunities will come and go. The only consistent, eternal thing is Him. What he thinks about us is the only thing that matters.
Don’t base your value in what others think about you and whether they accept you or not. Don’t put your identity in what you do or what you’ve accomplished. Don’t place all your focus and energy on temporal things that only lasts for a moment. Let your heart and your desires be for Him. For when it is, that’s when God can move on our behalf and bring us into HIS intentions for our lives. When we set our focus on him, God can bring us into promotion, regardless of men or regardless of where we find ourselves. If God be for you, who can be against you! Set your eyes and focus upon Him. Refuse to be moved by temporal things and don’t allow your emotions to deceive you. Shut off all voices that seek to seed you with lies and doubts. Set your eyes on Him and let Him lead you by His spirit. He will not disappoint!
So I ask you today, what do you want? What is in your heart? What is important to you?
