Isaiah 65:2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts. ~ Isaiah is revealing to us that when we try to establish right and wrong, when we direct our own steps according to our own wisdom and thoughts, it’s not good! It’s actually rebellion.
In this passage of scripture, God is not talking about a people who were outside of covenant. No, he’s talking about His covenant people Israel. They had forsaken his law, his government, and his word and chose to establish their own way of doing things that they thought were acceptable in their own eyes. They saw themselves as holy. They saw themselves as a people who were in right standing with God. But understand, unless we are following God’s ways that are established and defined by HIS word, we are walking after our own thoughts which will lead to destruction and death.
Romans 12 instructs us not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. God’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours. We must be people of the word if we are going to be a people who live lives pleasing unto our father. All that he has for us is good. All that he desires for us is good. But if we forsake his ways, we will live a life whose end is destruction and death. God made a way for us, we have to choose to walk in it, he won’t force us. But we can’t expect to live however we feel is right and expect to receive the reward and blessing of the righteous. It’s not going to happen. So let’s choose today to allow his word to direct our steps and define how we live. Let’s not try to govern our own lives by what we feel is right but let’s allow God’s word to instruct us and teach us.
