I was reading the account in Mark 4:35-41 where Jesus and the disciples were in a ship crossing over to the other side. Jesus was asleep in the hinder part of the ship when the disciples came and woke him and said Master, carest thou not that we perish? ~ This is an awesome illustration of the two choices that we have in every situation in our lives and how our choices affect us. We can either choose to be people of faith, or people of fear.

People who fear are people who have forgotten what God has said. They have forgotten their identity in Christ and the power and authority that they have been given through redemption and salvation. They are people who choose to submit themselves to the elements of this world, being tossed to and fro. Often times they are stressed and filled with anxiety because they are working so hard to get things under control and make things happen in their own strength and power. They forsake what God has told them and what he has given them. We as natural men and women do not have power or authority over the atmospheres or situations and when we submit ourselves to fear, we are relinquishing our identity in Christ and submitting ourselves to a weaker entity that has no power over us, only that which we give him.

People of faith are people who hold fast to that which God has spoken. They refuse to submit themselves to this world and the things thereof. They hold fast to the promise and direction of God for their lives and they enter into the rest that God has promised in his word. They refuse to be affected by the atmospheres around them, whether they be natural atmospheres or atmospheres created by men. They keep their eyes fixed upon God, enter into rest, and cease from their own works. They exercise the power and authority that God has given to them by speaking forth the word. And as they hold fast to their confidence in God and their identity in Christ, they see atmospheres shift, storms end, and the desired end result that God has for their lives.

We can live above all the mess that goes on around us. We can live in peace and rest. We don’t have to stress, fear or worry. This is all done by choice. Choose today to be people of faith!
