Romans 7:22-25 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord….. ~ In Romans 7 Paul talks about the inward struggle that he is going through. He longs to do good, longs to live his life according to the word of God but finds himself falling short.

Many times we find ourselves in the same struggle. We want to respond in love but find ourselves lashing out in anger. We desire to live free of sin but many times find ourselves falling back into the same bondages, the same sins that we so desperately want to be free of. We go through this internal battle with ourselves and sometimes even hate ourselves because we continue to fall short. But in Romans 8, Paul reveals to us that there is hope, there is a way that we can live free from the power of sin and death, it’s through Jesus. There are 2 spiritual laws that Paul reveals to us:

  1. The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
  2. The law of sin and death.

A law is a set of rules that governs a society. It’s the boundaries or confines that the members of those societies live by. When we were born, all were born under the law of sin and death. When we are born again, we are translated out of the kingdom of darkness and brought into the kingdom of light which is governed by a greater law, the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

There are things that take place immediately when we are born again. But then there are things that through the process of time begin to change. As we begin to gain understanding of God and how his kingdom works, things will begin to take shape in our lives and it begins to change our very nature within. It no longer becomes a struggle to respond correctly, it becomes part of our nature that governs us.

So when you find yourself in those times of struggle, understand that you have a faithful high priest Jesus who continually makes intercession for you and is there to help you, not condemn you. Know that as you partake of his word, his word is working in you molding you and transforming you into His image. Don’t be discouraged, you are being perfected!
